The competition 2009

On Sunday 18th October, The Camberley Theatre hosted the second annual event aimed at encouraging grade 6 young musicians to perform in public. Sponsorship by local companies SC Johnson, Chancellor and Sons as well as The Atrium Camberley provided for cash prizes and gift tokens for all finalists. Councillor Craig Fennell , Mayor of Surrey Heath presented the prizes.

Colin Li, first place
The overall winner, seventeen year old pianist Colin Li, was described by Ruth Gerald, the adjudicator, as a very gifted young man with a special ear for the piano and a good sense of presentation to the audience. He received a prize of £250. Colin Li is a music scholar at Farnborough 6th Form College and intends to study mathematics at degree level.

Second place and £150 went to Rod Oughton (17) for astounding precision, brilliance and magnetism in his drums performance. Rod Oughton also attends Farnborough 6th Form College and is a member of the Surrey County Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Rod also plays in a rock band, and is no stranger to Camberley theatre, having taken part in the Battle Of The Bands in August.

Joshua, Colin, Rod
Joshua Thorne produced lovely sound from his trumpet and won third prize of £100. Joshua is also a member of Surrey County Youth Jazz Orchestra and is Drum Major at Sandhurst and District Corps of Drums.

£50 prizes went to: Christopher Brewster, Euphonium; Abigail Brewster, Violin; Katie Miles, Clarinet; Emma Kendall, Piano; Isabel de Souza, Flute; Stephanie Yeung, Piano. Finalists
